Raw Vegetable Diet

If you are someone who follows the latest diet trends, you've probably heard of the raw vegetable diet or are maybe even considering it. One thing you should know is that this type of diet plan is both healthy in ways but may also be harmful in ways. If a raw diet requires the elimination of carbs or fats, steer clear. Your body requires both carbs and fats in order to thrive, however the types of carbs and fats consumed are of major importance.


Whole grains and monounsaturated fats are two examples of healthy choices that you may not get to consume on a raw diet. However, you can eat a large variety of raw foods while still consuming grains, fats and even cooked foods. For example, consider adding raw fruits and vegetables as snacks rather than processed foods. At each meal, eat a portion of raw produce. Just make sure you go organic for the health and environmental benefits if at all possible. Organic produce is grown without the use of potentially harmful chemicals which means it is better for both you and the world in which you live.

Some raw diets advocate sushi as a good food choice. There can be health perils with eating raw fish, such as bacteria or parasite infection. Not all sushi is harmful, but why take the chance if you don't have to? There are sushi choices made with cold steamed fish and even vegetarian sushi that gives you the raw experience without exposing you to uncooked seafood. Sushi actually is a good food choice when health precautions (such as cooking the fish) are followed because the seaweed and vegetables contained within the rice covered roll are nutrient rich.

Before going on a raw vegetable diet, consider your alternatives. A diet that emphasizes a balanced blend of raw and cooked produce and cooked protein sources can be both satisfying and conducive to fat loss. The most important thing is to know what food you should eat, and when you should eat it. Certain food combinations are encouraging to weight loss efforts, while others are not.
