Losing Weight

Many people associate losing weight with deprivation. However you should know that getting down to your goal weight can be very fulfilling and rewarding. You don't have to starve yourself, cut out carbohydrates or exercise yourself into the ground. While moderate regular physical exercise is recommended for most everyone, you don't have to go overboard in an attempt to shed pounds. The best course of action is one that combines reasonable activity with a healthy and nutritious menu plan.


Your body needs the right foods at the right time in order to keep the metabolism running at top performance. The timing is so important because if you eat too frequently you may gain weight, but if you eat too infrequently your body may go into starvation mode. In starvation mode most of the calories consumed are carefully conserved as fat to keep you from starving to death. While you may not be trying to starve yourself to death, your body does not know this and does what it does automatically. A much better strategy is to eat regularly instead of sporadically.

By eating at regular intervals not spaced too far apart you are accomplishing two important things. You are feeding the engine that is your metabolism with the fuel it needs and you are keeping yourself from feeling hungry and deprived. Many dieters who go for long periods suffering from hunger end up breaking their diets and stuffing themselves with unhealthy junk foods. They simply cannot stand to be hungry anymore so they cave in and eat whatever they want.

On a diet based around the needs of your body you won't have to worry about this. You will be eating every few hours which means you'll feel satisfied. The foods you will consume are both low in calories and nutrient rich. With a diet such as this, your metabolism will run more smoothly, and you'll feel more energetic. Without depriving yourself of carbohydrates or fats but instead eating the right kinds, you will enjoy your diet. When losing weight, adding physical exercise you enjoy can amp up your efforts and even improve your overall health. Before making any big dietary or exercise changes be sure to consult your physician.
